At startup, 2,000 RPMs, after a few minutes, 1,300 RPMs, in gear with brake 1,100 RPMs, let off the brake and just apply throttle and hesitates and then takes off after 1,600 RPMs. In gear will idle at 15-26 MPH, at 40-55 MPH in overdrive will hesitate or misfire, doesn't always kick down and accelerate at 60. Cleaned IACV and functions, replaced TPS, replaced PCV and hose with clamps, because I plug the PCV valve with finger and idle drops to normal range but really sucks on my finger, replaced EGR hose, cleaned and replaced driver side breather hose to throttle body, cleaned everything on/in the innards of the throttle body, fine mist/spray, new plugs, wires, cap and rotor, and now that everything is clean I have a whistling/scream coming from somewhere by the TBI that doesn't react to TBI cleaner. Also, while applying throttle at low RPMs, below 2,000, then releasing throttle results in sputtering down to 200-600 RPMs for several seconds and then recovers back to its 1,100 RPMs idle, which it also does while torque converter is locked out at 40-55 MPH but transmission keeps the RPMs in the 1,350-1,600 RPMs range but that range is also where hesitation/misfires occur. I'm at a loss. Intake manifold gasket leak? Throttle body gasket leak? Bad EGR? I'm at wits end, oh and no CEL either. Vacuum boost to brakes is good as well.

Hi,

It sounds like a vacuum leak simply because of the noise you are hearing. Is it possible for you to record the noise and upload it for me to hear?

If you haven't already, check to see if there are any codes stored in the computer that can help point us in the right direction. This vehicle has an OBD1 system and doesn't require a scan tool to retrieve codes. All you will need is a short jumper wire or even a paper clip.

Follow the directions in this link and let me know what you find:

Also, yes there could be a leak at the intake.

Here is a link you may find helpful when checking for leaks:

Let me know.

Take care,

Joe
