Hi,
I'm not sure which system you have, automatic or manual temperature control, but yes, you will adjust the temperature knob to hot. There should be an A/C button to press to prevent it from turning on.
I attached a pic of the control panel below, but it isn't clear enough for me to see the label for each switch. If you take a pic of your control unit and upload it for me to see, I will likely be able to tell you which one to use.
