High fuel consumption?

I’m experiencing very bad fuel consumption for my vehicle. I tried many mechanics but none of them could solve the issue. Changed fuel injectors, changed spark plugs, ignition coils, canister purge valve and evaporator canister. Cleaned both side o2 sensors, still the consumption high and pressure having inside the petrol tank.
Any experts to give me some advice?

Hi,

The idea that it is using a lot more fuel can be a few things. One of the most common issues (if the engine is running normally and there is no check engine light on) is brake drag. You could have a brake not fully releasing and placing a drag on the vehicle. After you drive it, have you ever noticed any strange odors when you get out of the vehicle? Also, the next time you drive at least a mile, walk around the vehicle when parked and see if there is excessive heat coming from any of the wheels.

Next, a partially plugged catalytic converter can cause power loss and poor fuel economy. Also, a fuel pressure issue (high) can do it. If there is a vacuum leak causing the engine to run lean, the PCM can overcompensate with fuel to make up for the leak.

By any chance, do you have a live data scanner? If you do, could you let me know what the short-term fuel trims are when the engine is idling and at operating temperature?

Let me know. Also, let me know what MPG you are getting and the type of driving you do (in town or highway).

Take care,

joe

I do have scanner, catalysts I already removed and refixed with new gaskets, engine have little vibration in idle I noticed.

Symptoms in visible:

1. Little vibration in idle.
2. Fuel tank pressure always when open the lid.
3. Worst gas mileage getting.

I’m attaching one video before I recorded

Later I’ll do with think diag and upload.

Thanks a lot.

Hi,

In a perfect world, the fuel trims would be 0%, but that isn't usually the case. I noted the long-term fuel trims stay at -10.4% and then drop to -5%. What was happening when that happened? The idea that they are -10+% tells me the computer is trying to lean the fuel mixture.

Have you checked the fuel pressure? Something is causing more fuel to enter the combustion chamber than the computer wants. The STFT looks great, but the LTFT indicates a possible issue.

Next, I noticed the MAF reading really isn't changing. Was the engine at idle the entire time? The normal mass airflow (MAF) readings in a car can vary depending on the make, model, and engine type. MAF readings are typically measured in grams per second (g/s) and can range from around 2 to 150 g/s. Yours is staying at 0.6 and really not changing. Has anyone checked the MAF? Does the reading change based on engine load?

I'm not sure what to do with the MAP readings. According to two manuals, the vehicle only has a MAF and there is no MAP.

I attached a pic of the MAF sensor location below. If nothing has been done with it, remove and clean it.

Here is a link that explains how it's done:

https://www.2carpros.com/articles/mass-air-flow-service

Let me know if that makes any difference. If after cleaning the readings don't change, the MAF itself is the likely problem.

Take care,

Joe

Hello Jacob, I’m attaching the picture from tech stream data vehicle was in idle on both time when I did the test, mag sensor I replaced as well. Forgot to mention, fuel pressure didn’t check yet.
Thanks a lot

Hi,

The only thing I'm seeing is the long-term fuel trims indicate the control module is trying to reduce the amount of fuel entering the engine. The oxygen sensor voltages look good as well. So, in my mind, we have a fuel pressure issue or faulty injectors.

Let me know.

Thanks

Hi,

When I say fuel pressure issue, I mean the regulator may be failing and allowing pressure to get too high. Take a look through this link:

https://www.2carpros.com/articles/how-to-check-fuel-system-pressure-and-regulator

I attached the manufacturer's fuel pressure specifications below.

Let me know what you find.

Joe
