Intermittent will not crank issue?

My car will not crank sometimes. I just have to be patient and try it out for 10 minutes or so and it will eventually turn over. Sometimes I will go out and it starts right away, but I am not interested in being stranded. Once the car is on, it stays running so I don’t think it is an alternator and it has a new battery with clean connections. I don’t hear any strange noises coming from the starter, but I suspect it may be the issue. Any help would be appreciated.

Most of the time the problem will be the starter because it will have a bad spot that will get worse with time, but to be sure we can use a test light on the trigger wire when the engine is not cranking over.
