I had my engine at the end of December, my engine light is solid, but every time the mechanic clears it, it comes back on. On Monday had thermostat housing replaced it's been leaking for about 5 months, after I got home, I restarted my vehicle and it was idling a little rough and the seat was shaking for about 5 minutes, turn it off, waited for about 30 or 40 minutes and started it up and ran around block everything was fine. What could have caused it? Did the computer need time to reset and relearn things from the bad leak?

Hi,

Was the battery disconnected when the work was done? If so, certainly, it can take a bit of time for the computer to relearn idle speed and other settings.

Has the check engine light stayed off? Also, if it hasn't, can you provide me with the code or codes present that keep returning?

Let me know.

Joe

The mechanic didn't give me the code he said it was pertaining to o2 sensor, and the other said it throwed that code because it was leaking, and the car didn't get enough oxygen or air or something, but my check engine light want reset ever since the engine swap.

Hi,

Okay, a leaking thermostat won't set a code. If the engine overheats or the coolant is very low, it could.

Also, an O2 sensor can be the end result of what is causing the rough idle. On the other hand, the O2 sensor can be the cause of a rough idle. This is where I need to know the code involved. By any chance, could you have it scanned at a parts store and get the codes? Most will do it free of charge.

Let me know.

It wasn't a leaky thermostat, it was the thermostat housing, and it had been leaking from the bottom for months causing the coolant to drop really low. They checked for all leaks and that was the only one the light was on since the engine swap but it rough idle only for a few minutes, after that it was ok the battery was disabled to do the thermostat housing replacement, so I'm thinking that was it but I do need a new air filter because it has been 2 years now.

Hi,

The housing is what I meant. I'm used to saying thermostat. Is the engine running properly now? I ask because you indicated, ". So I'm thinking that was."

Let me know.
