My truck has no electrical power whatsoever, I thought maybe it was fusible links?

My truck has no power whatsoever. I thought maybe it was fusible links, so they were changed. I also put a new battery in. I tried to hook up the battery but as soon as I put the negative cable on, it drains. I sanded down my cables to make sure that it was getting a good connection to the ground. I grounded the starter, make sure there was ground on the transmission, frame etc. I can still find no ground on the cables. When I check the positive battery to the negative cable, I have no reading but when I apply negative cable to the negative post, I'm showing a positive number. I know that the negative cable is on metal regardless of the negative of the multimeter being on metal regardless of where it is it will not show ground. The only time that I get a reading on the negative cable is when the negative post and the negative cable are checked, and it shows positive battery voltage.

It sounds like a rusted or corroded connection or a bad negative battery cable. Can you upload pictures of the battery cable and suspected problem areas please?

There was no power due to bad ground connections to the motor, frame and body. The truck still will not start. The battery and posts are good, starter is good, ignition switch is good, clutch safety switch is good. The problem may be in the fuse box. When I checked the powertrain relay terminal the test light showed 1 power feed and 3 grounds. On the starter relay terminals, the 30 and 87shows ground and the 85 and 86 shows power. If I try jumping the starter it tries to turn over, but if you try and jump it again nothing happens. Where do I go from here?

It sounds like you have a defective starter motor but to be sure use the test light on the starter trigger wire near the starter, this guide can show you how:

I have included the starter wiring diagrams so you can see how the system works. Let me know what you find.

Thank you for the response. The starter passes all tests and works when I bench test. What I've found is that my starter relay terminals in the junction box the pins 85 and 86 are testing hot and 30 and 87 are testing ground. In the relay terminals 30 is supposed to be hot and 86 is hot in start when receiving the signal from computer. So why is pin 30 and 87 show ground?

Some pins will show ground when power is not applied, they don't show me the relay terminal ID just wiring color so the yellow wire should have power all the time, yel/lt blue powers the starter solenoid. Dk blue/org should be ground at all times and red tan/red is the starter switch trigger. Can you open the relay (remove the cover) and work the relay manually? This should cause the starter to activate.
