Recently I have noticed a grinding noise on idle and it is still present when accelerating and decelerating. I have changed the crank pulley, belt tensioner, belt and put a new power steering pump on but the noise still seems to be coming from the steering pump. Sounds like a whirring bearing. Am I missing something? When you take the belt off and run the engine the noise is gone so I only have alternator, water pump and A/C pulley left to check but it sounds like the whirring is coming from higher up near the pump. Just need some experienced guidance if anyone has come across this before.

Good afternoon,

Can you upload a video of the noise for me to hear? That way I can help you.

Okay, thanks.

This sounds to me like a water pump bearing.

I would remove the belts and run the motor and see if the noise is still there to confirm.

Roy

Water Pump Replacement
1. Remove the drive belt.
2. Drain the engine coolant.
3. Remove the crankshaft pulley.

4. Remove the six bolts securing the water pump, then remove the water pump (A).
5. Inspect and clean the O-ring groove and mating surface with the water passage.
6. Install the water pump with new O-rings in the reverse order of removal.
7. Clean up any spilled engine coolant.
8. Install the crankshaft pulley.
9. Refill the radiator with engine coolant, and bleed air from the cooling system with the heater valve open.
