1990 GMC Suburban detent cable

I changed the detent cable on my gmc suburban. After changeing and adjusting it I would have to stomp it for it to change into second gear and also the new one the cable pulls all the way out when I try to adjust it

Hopefully your cable isn't broken. But try readjusting it again, loosend it up and then push the carb open all the way and let it back. You should hear some clicking then lock it down. Also if the cable pulls all theway out again then check to see if your rod in the trans or your cable has come disconnected from it.
