2000 GMC Sonoma check engine light

I would like to know if there is a way to turn off check engine light without having to hook it up to a computer or scanner. My light comes on about twice a month and stays on for a few miles before going off. It seems to happen when I accelerate quickly from a stand still, pulling out into traffic or go over uneven roads, steep inclines. The engine runs smoothly, but the light is annoying.
