I replaced mine by getting the replacement part which is the whole cable assembly. Took the old one off, it was held by only 2 screws under the steering wheel, and pulled the broken cable through the fire wall. I also attached a strong string to the end of the old cable and used it to bring the new cable back the way the old cable came out as there are some tight places for the cable to run through. There was also a seal in the fire wall that has to be popped out. It can be done with simple tools and common sense.
