I have a 1998 gmc gimmy with 4 wheel drive and it wont enguage. When I press the button the light might come on but wont flash.I have noticed when I unhook battery for few seconds then hook it back up and try it the light will blick for a couple of seconds then will stop and the 2 hi will do come back on. It dosent even try to enguage so im not sure what it is.

Could I put it on a dignostic to see. Is the part expensive and is this a common problem thanks also is this a hard part to replace

My 2000 GMC Z71 was doing the same, except the Service 4WD light came on as well. Found out that the actual switch was a common problem for this.
