2000 GMC Jimmy check engine light

Hi last night I started my car and everything was fine I turned the heat on went inside picked up my kid put her in the car put the car in drive and it acted like it didnt want to go started sputtering and acting like it was going to stall I was like the and then the check engine light came on I dont know what the problem could be but I drove the car home really slow and the light started to blink during the ride home, what do you think the problem could be? Is it safe enough to drive to the mechanics or should I get it towed.

If you feel that it is unsafe dont do it, but if you feel you can make it go for it, have someone follow you.
