I was wondering how to remove the gear knob? I have twisted and pulled to no avail.

We have no information on these model, but some European types have a cap on top of the knob, (with the selector pattern on it) that comes off and the knob lock is under that. Worth checking that first. The caps normally are a push fit that may require a very small screw driver to pry off, just go easy just in case that is not the answer to your problem.
