Yesterday morning a friend of mine was trying to fix my stereo and messed with my fuse panels; the one inside the driver door and the one underneath the hood, and now the EPC and engine lights are on, and my car dash panel and my car isn't cranking. Well, it will start but then it starts to putter and sputter, and it has no pulling power whatsoever and if I give it too much gas it shutters and trembles. I just need to know how to fix this issue or what fuses to look at in order to resolve the issue, because my car ran like a charm before my fuse panels were messed with.

Hi,

The EPC (Electronic Power Control) light on a Volkswagen (VW) is an indicator that something is amiss with the engine or the vehicle's electronic systems. When the EPC light comes on, it usually indicates a fault that needs attention.

There are many things that can cause this light to come on. For example, the throttle position sensor, mass air flow sensor, vacuum leaks, and even a faulty brake light switch can cause it.

So, here is what we need to do. Because the light itself isn't specific, we need to have the computer scanned to see what codes are stored. If there is a parts store near you, most will scan it free of charge. Also, here is a link that shows how it is done:

If the vehicle is safe to drive, have that done and let me know what codes are present. That will narrow things down for us so we can focus on a specific area or circuit. Otherwise, it will become a guessing game because when he was under the hood, he could have unknowingly disconnected a vacuum hose, an electrical connector, caused a different fuse to fail, and the list goes on.

If you are unable to have that done or the vehicle is unsafe, let me know. We can try different things.

Take care,

Joe
