Engine is shaking and a burning smell coming from the tail pipe

Rattling noise coming from underneath the car as well as the tail pipe.

Hi,

It sounds like problem with the catalytic converter. Do me a favor. With the engine off, take a rubber mallet and tap on the exhaust to see if you can recreate the sound. If you can, try to pinpoint where it is coming from. Most likely, it is the catalytic converter.

What often happens is the internal components in the catalytic converter can come loose. The result is it blocks air flow, causing the engine to lose power and run poorly. Also, I have actually seen the catalytic convert glow red hot.

I attached a pic of what I am talking about and circled the part I am referring to.

Check that and let me know what you find.
