What is the service mileage for cleaning the fuel system? The dealer wants $175.00. Is this something I could do myself? The car runs fine.

Hello, I am Danny.

Normally most major service does not start until 100,000 mileage with the exception of oil changes. Yes, you can buy fuel treatments at your local auto parts stores. They usually consist of two additives; one that goes into the engine oil and the second goes into a full tank of gas. If you take your car to a quick lube place they offer fuel system clean for around $80.00. That involves a cleaner product being run through a vacuum source on the engine with the engine running. Hope this helps and feel free to ask any questions if needed. Thanks for using 2CarPros.

Hi Danny, thanks for the quick response. What about just cleaning the throttle body? I heard Honda's do not run correctly after cleaning them and there is an idle relearn needed? What is your opinion on this and would I be able to do it myself? Thanks, Neil

Hello again.

The only reason for that to be done is usually a car with high mileage and having a poor idling condition. I would just go with the store bought additives as preventive maintenance. With only 38,000 miles I see no reason for throttle body work. Hope this helps and thanks again for using 2CarPros.
