I have a 1983 ford truck 302. My truck is not running at the moment. When I start the truck it will stay on as long as I keep my foot on the gas pedal then when I remove my foot the truck will shut off. Sometimes the truck will stay running even when I remove my foot but, as soon as I try to put it in drive it will die. So my question is what would cause this and can I do it myself?

It could be just about anything but I would first start with the basics. Replace the plugs and do a basic tune up if that dosent help much check all your vacuum lines and make sure they are all connected and none are torn lemme know good luck :)
