About 6 months ago our 2003 Ford Winstar started to every once in a while seem to slip out of a higher gear to a lower and then back, happened very seldom and I checked the fluid and added a little.
The van now has 67,000 miles, and the 3.8 engine.
It runs and drives fine except now the transmission will shift to the next gear then back then ahead all in a second or 2, once were in 3rd or OD it will go along fine but as we slow it does the same thing downshifting, will drop to the next gear then back up and so on. OK I figured its a bad transmission but here is a twist. If I am driving about 70 and turn on the OD after a few minutes the OD off light will start to blink, when this happenes the transmission shifts fine, even if I slow or stop as long as I don't turn the van off it shifts fine. Also when this happens the OD off light can not be turned off but the OD will engage and dis-engage I can tell this by watching the tachometer. Also on accasion when driving the transmission will make a vibrating sound and feel like you are going over rumbel strips even if your not. Any ideas? Its been getting wors, and I'm going to take it in to be looked at but thought I'd ask here if you had any ideas.
