It's more appropriately called a transaxle.
It's on the driver's side of the car under intake snorkel. (Engine is on the left with all the pulleys and belt.)
Due to design of drivetrain and subframe, getting transaxle out is a huge job. Either pull out engine and transaxle together from the top as one unit, or detach lower subframe from body of car while supporting engine and remove transaxle from below. Either way, it's a huge job and be ready for a large $$ bill or estimate from your local transmission shop.
Generally, I prefer to remove engine and transaxle as one unit from the top. Then separate the two halves when it's outside the chassis.
