How do I lower the steering column to change the interlock solenoid

Removal

1. WARNING: The electrical circuit necessary for the air bag system deployment is powered directly from the battery and a backup power supply. To avoid accidental deployment and possible personal injury, the battery positive cable must be disconnected for a minimum of one minute to de-energize the backup prior to removing any of the air bag system components.

Disconnect the battery.

2. Remove the screws and the instrument panel steering column cover.

3. Remove the screws and the steering column cover reinforcement.

4. Remove the screws and the steering column opening brace.

5. Disconnect the shift indicator cable.

O Remove the screw.
O Remove the cable.

6. Remove the four nuts and lower the steering column to the seat.

7. Disconnect the brake shift interlock actuator connector.

8. Remove the two screws and the brake shift interlock actuator.

Installation

1. Install the brake shift interlock actuator and the screws.

2. Connect the brake shift interlock actuator connector.

3. Position the steering column and install the four nuts.

4. Install the shift indicator cable.

O Connect the cable loop onto the transmission column shift selector tube.
O Install the screw.
O Adjust the shift indicator cable.

5. Install the steering column opening brace and the screws.

6. Install the steering column cover and reinforcement and screws.

7. Install the instrument panel steering column cover and screws.
8. Connect the battery.
