Here is how to replace the transmission in your car step by step.

REMOVAL
1. Position vehicle on hoist.
2. Drain transaxle fluid.
3. Remove transmission oil pan bolts and pan to allow complete fluid drainage.
4. Disconnect battery ground cable.
5. Remove air cleaner assembly, hoses and tubes.
6. Remove cowl top vent panel.
7. Disconnect engine electrical connectors.
8. Remove bolt retaining main wiring harness bracket and position wiring harness out of way.
9. Disconnect shift cable from transaxle.
10. Remove shift cable from bracket.
11. Install engine lifting eyes to LH front exhaust manifold stud and RH rear exhaust manifold stud.
12. Position three bar engine support No. D88L-6000-A or equivalent.
13. Remove transaxle dipstick and tube.
14. Remove four torque converter housing bolts from top of transaxle.
15. Raise and support vehicle.
16. Remove front wheel and tire assemblies.
17. Disconnect heated oxygen sensor.
18. Install flex tube support or equivalent.
19. Remove catalytic converters and Y-pipe assembly.
20. Disconnect steering shaft from steering gear assembly.
21. Disconnect power steering fluid lines at steering gear. Drain fluid into suitable container.
22. Disconnect stabilizer bar link at stabilizer bar.
23. Disconnect tie rod ends at steering knuckle RH/LH.
24. Disconnect ball joints at steering knuckle RH/LH.
25. Remove subframe to body retaining bolts and lower subframe.
26. Disconnect starter wire harness, low oil sensor and vehicle speed sensor.
27. Remove starter retaining bolts and position starter out of way.
28. Remove dust cover.
29. Rotate engine with 1/2 inch drive ratchet and 7/8 inch deep well socket on crankshaft pulley bolt to align torque converter bolts with starter drive hole.
30. Remove torque converter to flywheel retaining nuts.
31. Remove engine to transaxle retaining bolts.
32. Remove halfshafts as follows:
a. Screw extension tool No. T86P-3514-A2 or equivalent, into CV joint puller tool No. T86P-3514-A1 or equivalent, and install impact slide hammer into extension.
b. Position puller behind CV joint and remove joint.
c. Install shipping plugs.
d. Position drive axles out of way.
33. Remove three transaxle oil pan bolts and install adapter tool No. 014-00763.
34. Use transaxle jack to support transaxle.
35. Remove remaining torque converter housing bolts.
36. Separate transaxle from engine and carefully lower transaxle out of vehicle.

INSTALLATION
1. Place transaxle assembly on jack and raise to engine.
2. Position transaxle to engine and align torque converter bolts to flywheel.
3. Install lower transaxle housing bolts. Tighten bolts to 41-50 ft lb.
4. Install torque converter bolts through starter drive hole by rotating engine at crankshaft pulley bolt with 7/8 deep well socket and 1/2 drive ratchet. Tighten torque converter bolts to 23-39 ft lb.
5. Remove transaxle jack.
6. Install halfshaft assemblies.
7. Install dust cover and tighten to 7-9 ft lb.
8. Install starter and tighten to 30-40 ft lb.
9. Position subframe removal kit No. 014-00751 or equivalent, raise subframe and install retaining bolts.
10. Remove subframe removal kit.
11. Install LH engine support and tighten bolts to 40-55 ft lb.
12. Install engine mount and tighten to 60-85 ft lb.
13. Install ball joints and steering knuckle.
14. Tighten tie rod retaining nuts to 35-46 ft lb. Continue to tighten until nearest cotter pin slot, then insert cotter pin.
15. Install tie rod ends at steering knuckle.
16. Install stabilizer bar link at stabilizer bar.
17. Install power steering fluid lines at steering gear.
18. Install flex tube support or equivalent.
19. Install catalytic converters and Y-pipe assembly.
20. Install front wheel and tire assembly. Tighten wheel hub nuts to 85-105 ft lb.
21. Lower vehicle.
22. Install remaining torque converter housing bolts and tighten to 41-50 ft lb.
23. Remove three bar engine support tool No. D88L-6000-A or equivalent.
24. Remove engine support equipment.
25. Install oil filler tube and oil level indicator.
26. Install shift cable and shift cable bracket.
27. Install main wiring harness bracket.
28. Install electrical connectors to engine.
29. Connect battery ground cable.
30. Install air cleaner assembly, hoses and tubes.
31. Install cowl top vent panel.
32. Fill transaxle with specified amount of oil.
33. Start engine and move transaxle selector lever through all ranges. Check for leaks.
