Transmission problem
1997 Ford Thunderbird V8 Two Wheel Drive Automatic
----------------------------------------------------------------
with car in overdrive mode. i put car in reverse it sputters and wants to die and has several times. then i put it into drive and it sputters and gerks a bit. when i start to slow down when approaching a stop light the car wants to die. I have to put it in neutral and give it some gas. had the transmission rebuilt about 6 months ago. I pushed the button that turns off the overdrive and car runs fine. The check engine light has been on for awhile.

sounds like you have a problem with the torque converter clutch solenoid in the transmission. this is a relatively easy fix. you need to drop the pan and replace the solenoid, or bring it back to the tranny guy, he will probably hook you up. hope this helps
