1992 Ford Tempo 4 cyl Automatic 129600 miles

i was just wondering I just bought my 1992 ford tempo w/ 129600km on it. When I start driving it it revs up high when I get to about 40km then it jerks and kicks up to 2nd gear I believe and it does the same thing around 60-70km what would be causing it to rev really high to switch gears. Also it makes a very loud rattling sound when I stop and it stalls on me sometimes as well when I stop at lights or stop signs? Also when I put gas into the car it sounds like there is air in there or something it sounds almost like a hissing sound? I was told to do something with an O2 sensor get one put in but what will that help with and what can I do to make my car drive better?

You actually bought a car that does this! Did you take it for a test drive? Check required fluid levels? Or it started acting up later after purchase! Sounds like your transmission is not reading your speed and shifting at the right time. There is a shift control arm coming down from your throttle linkage. It is located to the left and down of brake master cylinder on right side back of engine compartment when looking under open hood. These are known to come off due to plastic bushing disintegration and cause trans shift problems. The control rod/arm also has a spring that is known to come of/break. Your throttle linkage is located under a plastic cover to the left and up from brake master cylinder.

I actually took it into get fixed and the guy said it was the EGR valve harmonic valve and something like the passing linkage in the transmission or something like that and its costing me 670$ to get it all fixed! So hopefully this does the job for now hopefully nothing else is wrong with it does this sound right do u think he hooked it up to some machine that tells u whats wrong with the car I dont know a damn thing about cars so I was just wondering if this seems right to you!? I guess the egr valve has something to do with the air flow or whatever in the car and the harmonic valve has something to do with the rattling that was going on and the passing linkage is because my car was rev high and not kicking itself into gear properly!

Trans down shift linkage. An adjustable rod that goes from throttle to trans. They dont break so only needed adjustment/reconnect. Max 25$unless they pulled trans and went inside? Then a couple hundred+? Harmonic balancer which is the weighted wheel on belt side of crank. Max 200$ egr valve. Max 100$ ask him for the old parts so you can see where your money went?
