MY CAR IS A 1996 FORD TAURUS GL WWITH A 2001 ENGINE. THE 96 HAS ABOUT 155,000 MILES AND THE 2001 ENGINE HAS ABOUT 125,000 MILES. IT'S A 6 CYL. WHEN I START THE CAR IT IDLES AT ABOUT 2000 RPMS AND DOES NOT EVER STOP. THE CAR WILL DRIVE ABOUT 25 MILES PER HOUR WITHOUT ME EVEN PRESSING THE GAS. WHEN I PRESS ON THE BRAKE THE CAR REALLY DOESN'T SEEM TO WANT TO STOP. GHANGE THE EGR BUT NO HELP. I HAVE TAKEN IT TO MANY SERVICE STATIONS AND NO ONE SEEMS TO KNOW WHAT THE PROBLEM IS. I AM STARTING TO THINK I SHOUD OPEN A SHOP AND GET PAID FOR NOTHING. I AM SERIOUSLY IN NEED OF HELP. MY 17 YEAR OLD SON DRIVES THIS CAR AND I AM AFRAID OF THIS PROBLEM. PLEASE HELP IF YOU CAN.

First thing is check the accelerator cable, disconnect it if you have to to make sure it's not binding. If the car idles that high, there is no vacuum available to the brake booster! Is the check engine light on?
Was the PCM from the 2000 used or the original?
