Ford AX4N Transmission grief

I have a 1998 Taurus SE 3.0L V6 DOHC. The trans would not shift out of 2nd gear at all. It would not even downshift to 1st when I came to a stop. I then ran the shifter through all the gears (incl reverse) while the vehicle was stopped. This seemed to fix the problem-for now. There were no codes when a technician scanned the PCM for any problems.

The transmission was rebuilt 30,000 miles ago. The fluid & filter were changed last week.

Could it be a bad transmission sensor?

Ahhh, the ax4n, there are several problems with that unit, one that seems like it fits your problem was a faulty intermediate support which restricts fluid to the forward/direct drum, also drums have failed, I wonder if the bulletin and updated part was out when your unit was built, no codes just means the pcm hasnt seen the problem as a failure or non computer related failure, and I have to say whenyou have an overhaul that doenst mean every part is replaced, keep us informed of whats happening

They would show up on a scan, maybe drive it and see what happens, maybe nothing, I was giving possibles, just take it easy and listen and feel for anything abnormal until you get a light, it may just be a fluke

Sometimes an MLP switch will not code in the PCM and I have seen them cause all kinds of differant shift problems. The MLP switch can get heat sinked and bork out when it gets hot.
