I have a 2000 Ford Taurus SE. We have had a problem with leaking oil. We were told it that the PCV valve needs to be changed but cannot locate one. Sometimes the leaking is as much as 2 quarts a week and sometimes as little as 1/2 quart every couple of weeks. We cannot seem to locate the spot where it is leaking.

Other than that the car runs like a champ, no problems starting, no rough engine. Its great.

Thanks

That sounds like a lot of oil leakage for a bad pcv valve. The valve should be in one of the valve covers. If you find it, take it out and shake it. If you hear the little ball inside bouncing around, it's good. If not, replace it. I've seen cases where a bad pcv valve can force oil up throught the dipstick tube. Also, check around the oil pan and especially the valve covers. An oil leak could be a lot of things. It could even be a crank or cam seal. Does the car have good oil pressure?

Is it in or on the valve cover and where approximately should it be? Should it be on the front valve cover or rear because this is a transverse V-6. According to the book and everything we have found we cant even find the PCV valve to check it. Yes it has good oil pressure, starts good. No leakage around the pan or any of the seals. To include valve covers.

There should be a tube leading into the valve cover. The PCV valve is usually half in and half out of the vavle cover.

In my 03 Taurus SEL 3.0 24V Duratec the PCV Valve hose goes from the under side of the throttlebody down to the middle of the motor underneath the wiring harness and fuel rail. That's where the valve is located. You can retrieve it with a homeade tool. I used a 2ft piece of hose and cut teeth onto the rubber for a little bite. It comes out easy but you to have to thread it back a quarter turn so a little bit of grip on a sturdy piece of hose should do it. A failed PCV valve caused oil to back up through the intake so cleaning the MAF sensor, Idle Control, and throttlebody will be a priority. I happened to clean everything from the air filter box down to the valves. Make sure you get eyes on the valve itself to see what it looks like before purchasing a new one as there's 2 different valves and i believe it depends on vin#. Replace all boots and hoses going from the intake to the valve covers because there's a good chance that the oil cooked and destroyed your air lines. Don't just shake the valve to check it... replace it! It's like a $6 part and should be done every 30k mile per the manual. If you do decide to remove the entire intake manifold like I did the it's a good opportunity to clean the fuel rail and replace or clean your injectors, gaskets, and mating surfaces. The intake manifold has a torque sequence and spec so be mindful.
