The past week, I have been having problems with my 2000 Ford Taurus, I have had very little problems with my car but am concerned because of the mileage.

After I put some Gummott Fuel Injector Cleaner in the car, the next day my car began to surge, if feels like when my foot is on the brake I am fighting to keep the car stopped and when I put the car in neutral or park it will race to about 4000 RPMs than for about a minute than will slowly back down. When the car is idling normal it is idling very rough. When driving the car it is almost as if I am using my cruise control but it is not engaged.

I am very concerned about the cost of the repair as I am a single woman and want to be as informed as possible.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

You have not mentioned if your check engine light is on? The onboard computer should pick up any issues with idle speed, emissions control, or other like problems and this would be the place to start..... If the light IS on, most of your large part store chains, i.e. Auto Zone, Advance, etc. will read the trouble codes for free and that would give you a good starting point. If the light is NOT on, more extensive testing/ a diagnostic scan would probably be your best bet. The going rate for that should be around $ 60-80....
