My 99 Ford Taurus has recently started giving me issues. When accelerating it will periodically sputter and lose power, it will occasionally drop RPMs while idling (and stall about 30% of the time when this issue arises if I do not rev the engine), while maintaining highway speeds (60 to 70 MPH) it will occasionally lose power (I am not sure how else to describe this, but it feels as if the engine suddenly has trouble pulling its own weight, specifically it feels as if I hitched a trailer at highway speeds) I can overcome this lack of power issue by letting off the accelerator for a second or two. The check engine light will come on for a short period of time and then go off, I had the code diagnosed (stupidly I have forgotten the code). It was the same code that I had about a year ago that was thrown due to a vacuum leak (at the time I was told to replace the MAF sensor, that my engine was running to lean or rich), so I do not believe that this is the correct issue. After doing some nosing around on the internet and Google, I think that I may have a faulty DPFE (Differential Pressure Feedback?) Sensor.

Hello,

Thank You for the Donation.

First thing I would do is get some MAF Cleaner and clean the MAF. Next I would have code reread and post here in forum for further diagnosis and test proceedures.

I cleaned the MAF sensor, and am still having the same issues with my Taurus. The code that it is throwing is p0103 which points to a dirty or defective MAF sensor, but I was wondering if there is something else that would cause the OBD to signal this code.

Check the duct work for crack loose clamps also check the air filter housing make sure it is closed and sealed properly.

Also have you checked to vacuum line going to the DPFE (Differential Pressure Feedback) Sensor. Make sure they are in good condition.

One other thing you can try, disconnect the MAF Sensor, it should switch to its default setting and run normally, take for test drive report back with results.
