I just installed a rack and pinion, did a power steering flush and changed the power steering filter on my 98 taurus. And as soon as I start the vehicle and touch the steering wheel the steering wheel goes back and forth extremly fast and violently until you shut it off. If you turn the wheel while the vehicle is off then it turns just fine. We checked the vin for the right part number and everything. I even put a different one in threre and it does the same thing. Please help

I too am working on my 96 Taurus's rack and pinion, what source did you use to learn how to remove your rack and pinion? My book doesn't tell me, and presently I'm searching the web.

Thank you for your time.

Just installed a rebuilt rack and pinion in a '96 Explorer. There is a restrictor valve between the pressure line and the rack assembly. The valve fell out of the original one while removing the assembly. The new assembly didn't have this valve. Luckily I found mine on the ground. This valve helps control counter steer. It fits into rack assemply at the base of the pressure hose. Hope this helps. Jim
