driving on highway at 65-70 mph speedometer began jumping to 50 mph and back to actual speed. Speedometer then decided to quit and I experienced shifting difficulties from 1st to 2nd and so forth. Reverse works fine and all gears engage in idle. It's hit or miss as to whether gears will engage or RPM's will continue to rise, transmission refuses to shift any higher than 1st. Is there a direct correlation to the failure of the speedometer and and the transmission issue?

Suspect and check speed sensor
do a codes scan
with out speed reading PCM can not determine vehicle speed and tranny will not shift correctly
