1997 Ford Taurus gear shift

There is a probleming getting out of park. We checked out the fuses and they are ok. We went throught the emergency brake and got it working. Worked well for 2-3 months. Doing it again. Noticed that when brake lights do not work gear shift does not work. Is there a switch that controls this and where is it.

Replace the brake light switch, easy to do. A pin clip and a connector.
