97 Ford Ranger - Is This a Clutch Problem?

I have 105,000 miles on my Ranger. I have no trouble shifting UP, but when I'm starting to slow down and push the clutch in to downshift, I hear a "groaning" noise, and the stick shift starts vibrating. This is especially bad shifting from 2nd to 1st gear. It's not difficult to shift into gear, though. Any ideas? Thanks!

Has anyone checked to see if there is any gear oil in transmission. That really sounds like dry gear syncros. NOS 8)

It could be a dry pilot bearing also. That is where the end of the trans shaft fits to the back of the engine. NOS 8)
