Engine Performance problem
2000 Ford Ranger 6 cyl Four Wheel Drive Automatic 112K miles

Hi fellas, I just bought a 2000 Ranger with 4.0 V6 with 112 K miles and the only thing that concerns me is that when I start it, the engine runs at about 2500 RPM for about 5-10 seconds, then drops to 1200 within about 30 seconds. This happens everytime I start the engine, not just when it is cold.
The 2500 seems (and sounds) pretty high to me. I would think that this is not good on an engine especially in the winter with oil needing to get to all the critical parts.

The engine runs just fine but the high rpms on start up disturb me. The guy I bought it from installed a new updated intake gasket not long before I bought the truck. I should have asked if this condition existed before the gasket replacement.

Is this very fast idle a normal condition or should I have the engine examined by someone other than an old worn out dummy like me?

Thanks for any advice. Stan

Wow, I guess even making a $10.00 "donation" yesterday wont get me any answer to my May 7th question.

I usually don't have to pay in advance for service work when I take my vehicles in the shop.

There are other sites online with technicians that don't charge a "donation" to respond.

My mistake to even post a question on a site that displays a request for a "donation" in advance in order to get a faster response.

I'll chalk up the 10 buck "donation" as experience, but wont make the same mistake again.

What a racket. No "donation", no response. Stan

I guess I made a mistake in thinking that this site would be helpful for my auto problem. 23 days with absolutely no response from anyone here,
is not helpful. Donating money still didn't help.

In retrospect, I don't think I even want help from those who request money for a prompt responce. I'm 10 bucks poorer, but 10 bucks wiser. Stan

Consider me a very short term member. Byeeeeeeeee
