I have a 1994 Ford Ranger supercab 4x2 5 speed manual with a 4.0. I went to drive it last night and it started over heating on me very quickly. I pulled over and bought some antifreeze for it. When I poured the antifreeze in it poured right back out somewhere on the bottom in the back of the engine. Had no overheating problems with the truck up to this point. I decided to drive car back to house and about a mile down the road it started making an awful "grinding" noise when I pressed the accelerator. Smoke began to come from motor and not to long after it shut off on me. I left it where it died. It will start back up, but i'm too afraid to drive it. It is possible that it only had water in radiator and it froze because it was 18 degrees that night. Just wondering if I have blown it up or if the freeze plug has popped out. Thank you

If it starts and runs, it isn't blown up. However, I can't say what damage, if any, was done. If you have a leak behind the motor, check the heater core hoses, freeze plugs, and check for leaks between the heads and the engine block. Have someone pour in coolant while you watch where the leak is coming from.

Let me know what you find so I can further advise you.

I did that and the leak is coming from one of the side freeze plugs. The freeze plug is still theres but rust out and leaking. Any ideas of how to get to it?
