I just had my Ford Fairlane 289 rebuilt. Edelbrock carb (4V), edelbrock manifold, headers, new water pump, new mechanical fuel pum, new cooling hose, and thermostat. The car idles well when cool and seems to drive fine when just started. Upon driving the thermostat will show a jump to about 3/4 on the guage. The engine will basically shut down like starved for gas, vapor lock? I re-routed the fuel line away from the block as it seemed hot. Help!

Flush the system and radiator. With the extra heat and the fuel line being close to the engine it vapor locks, You can also put a heat shiels between the engine and fuel line. Under the car there is one spot that the fuel line comes close to the exhaust. With the headers check how close the line is to the drivers side collector.
