1992 Ford Mustang V8 Automatic 5.0 miles

fuel pump stays on while car is running. You can also smell gas while its running. You can hear the pump its so loud What could cause this?

The fuel pump should stay ON while engine running (only way for delivering fuel )
fuel smell should check for leaks
