Ford Focus 2003 - rough idle

Hi I have Ford FOCUS SE - 2003 - 56000 miles 2.0

I experienced rough idle after starting the car after few hours parked. After few minutes its idle calms. When humid and AC on - seems to do more rough idle trouble.
It didn't stall - yet. Once the "check engine" light went on for two days and then it turned off again. Please what should I do first?
The mechanic told me if the "check engine" light is off - there is no reason to do diagnostics.

Hey if ur check engine light is on your car is throwing a code iw ould said your idle era sensor but it may be something simple take it to autozone they will check ur check engine light for free and tell u exactly whats wrong may need a tune up

It doesn't matter if it's off or not every time it comes on it leaves a code on your ECU (your car's brain) that can be pulled up with a scanner. I'd say to take it to your nearest autozone or checker and have them scan it for you explaining the problem to them. They'll be able to pull up all recent codes and find out what happened. Then you can go from there. Good luck, let us know what happens.

Hi - just got back from the shop - It turned out that the spark plugs were old and the engine neede tune up - wasn't really cheap - but the car is running very well.
