Air Conditioning problem
2000 Ford Focus 4 cyl Front Wheel Drive Manual

First let me say that I don't exactly remember when the air conditioning stopped working but with the temperature rising its about time to get fix it. The system has a 5 position switch on the dashboard which controls the fan speed. When the switch is cycled through the positions on the switch, positions 1, 2 and 3 do not blow air from the fan, but the AC indicator light is on and you can feel the air near the vents has a colder temperature than the car has. In position 4 the fan blows on high but the AC indicator light turns off. Of course in position 0 nothing works but thats as intended. If I set the switch between positions 3 and 4 I can get cold air to blow, but its on the high fan setting which is slightly annoying after about 5 minutes.

Its been years since it has worked, should I check the system pressure also? I'd imagine after years of not being used to its potential a hose or two may have fallen victim to dry rot.
