Has the check engine light come on? Have you checked for vacuum leaks?

No the check engine light does't come on. I've just noticed the egr is missing. Would that cause my problem? Thanks for your help.

If the EGR is missing, that wil cause a really bad vacuum leak, so yes, it could be the cause of all your problems.
