removing rear rotors from my 2003 explorer

I have a 2003 Eddie Bauer Ford Explorer and i am trying to remove the rear rotors for servicing.It has 75000kms, first time for this job.I am unable to release it from where the e-brake is attached.Is there some sort of system to release them?

the e-brakes are little shoes and they are dug into
the drum in the back of the disc. I hit mine with a
2lb. sledge then worked them off.
