Heat diverter valve

On my 1994 ford explorer with a 6 cylinder motor, I blew out a heat diverter valve which attaches to the
heater core. There is a vacuum hose which attaches to the valve. When run the engine, I get no heat and the valve does not allow the fluid into the heater core. Does this thing run on a thermostat somewhere and if so, where is it?

Just remove it for the winter, then replace in the summer for colder A/C. Plug the vacuum line after removal!
