I was stopped while in 4x4 high and hit either the 4x4 auto or 4x4 low button and my truck made a grinding noise went on the fritz. My speedometer will not register more than 15 mph, the gas gause shows half tank the dropped to Empty, the 4x4 high and 4x4 low lights are both on at the same time, service engine light is on, sometimes the engine will not shift gears and runs the RPM over 5, and starting and stopping feels like there are 2 'jerks' that feels like a stick shift transmission shift that never occurred before.

Ok first things first what is the code? I would call your local parts stores and find one that will do a free scan and scan you Explorer and find out why the engine light is on this may answer for some of the other problems too. It will be a P followed by 4 numbers. Get me that code and we will start there and see were it takes us ok. Thanks.

The code is P0104 and they said there is 2 more codes - check body? Dealer took 2 days to find the 4x4 module had got disconnected - that solved 4x4 and speedo problem. They wanted another day and $340 to do more diagnostics to find problem with the engine light and gas gauge.

Ok the P0104 code is a mass air flow codes. More or less the mass air flow reading is incorrect for one reason or another. So what you should do it check the air intake hose for any crackes or leaks, this is the hose that goes from the air cleaner box to the engine. Make sure all the clamps are tight. If all this looks good then get some mass air flow cleaner and clean it. Then go to a local parts store and have the codes pulled and write them down and have it cleared. Give me the other codes and in the mean time we will see if the light comes back on. If you have any questions feel free and ak. Have a great day.
