Hi Kirk,

Yes it is pretty straight forward, the only possible problem is getting to the wires on the Solenoid.

This guide should help walk you through the steps

Check out the diagrams (Below). Please let us know what you find.

Some of the bolts and nuts can be difficult to remove look for a place to use a universal and long extension works pretty good.

Here is a guide that can help

Please let us know if you need anything else to get the problem fixed.

Cheers, Ken

I have the bolts out of the starter, but can't seem to wiggle it out. Not enough room.
Do I have to remove something else to get the starter out? This is a 96 with a V6, 4-wheel drive.

Are you sure you got all of the bolts out sometimes they put them on the top were you can't see them. I've had too replace mine several times and it is a tight fit. If you take a screw driver and find an opening you can pry it out a little. And it should just pop right out.

A relay and a solenoid do the same thing. You'll do a lot better listening to Ras and not the sales clerks at Autozone
