Shakes or Wobbles problem
1999 Ford Explorer Automatic

On two different occasions, my Explorer has been shaking while I was accelerating. On short trips, it acts fine, but both times I began trips in excess of 30 miles, it started acting up. I had it set on cruise control doing 55 mph down the highway when I felt the entire vehicle jerk. It did this several times. When I pulled over to turn around, I gave it some gas and it took a couple of seconds for the vehicle to go, and it would do it in 3-4 short bursts of accelerating and then jerking, before it would speed up. I go to about 30 mph, and it started jerking again. Same with 55 mph.

Lack of acceleration, chugging, hesitating, bogging etc. Could be caused by one of the following below:

Possibilities: Inspect and test all the following listed below:
Oxygen sensor.
Catalytic converter.
Fuel injectors dirty/sticking.
Mass airflow sensor/Airflow meter.
Throttle position sensor.
Crankshaft position sensor
Knock sensor
Manifold absolute pressure sensor.
EGR Valve
Fuel pressure regulator leaking or defective fuel pump.
False air leakage.
Fuel contamination.
Foul/defective spark plugs.
Open spark plug wires.
Ignition coil/Coil packs defective.
Incorrect ignition timing.
Cap and rotor.

Note:If it doesn't apply disregard it.
