1998 Ford Explorer AUTO 4 WHEEL DRIVE IS NOT WORKING

We had our 1st snow fall this year and I just bought this car this summer. The 4 wheel drive is not working in Auto, I switched it to 4hi the light comes on and nothing and 4low there isn't even a light that comes on. The 4 wheel drive is not working at all.

Chances are the actuator on the transfer case is bad. What I need you to do is this. Have a helper turn the knob into 4wd while you check to see if there is power at the actuator on the transfer case. If there is power, then the actuator is the most likely cause. NOTE: It isn't uncommon for them to go bad on these vehicles.

Let me know what you find.
