1997 Ford Explorer loud nosie when driving

My dads 1997 ford explorer is making a loud horrible noise when driving down the road. If he lets off the gas and slows down a bit it goes away for a bit. But them does it again. Any ideas? I just paid $700 and they didnt fix it :( he said it almost sounds like its racing?

Your describing a bad rear end bearing noise from the rear end pinion gear. Have that checked.
