1996 Ford Explorer Automatic 104000 miles

I HAVE A 96 FORD EXPLORER. IT HAS 104,000 MILES ON IT. I HAVE NOT HAD ANY PROBLEMS WITH IT FOR OVER A YEAR. THIS MORNING I WAS NOT ABLE TO START MY CAR. I HAVE A BRAND NEW BATTERY, SO ITS NOT THAT. I LOOKED UNDER THE REAR BACK DRIVER SIDE AND SAW A BIG PUDDLE OF FLUID. IT SMELLS JUST LIKE GAS. IS IT A GAS LEAK? COULD THIS BE THE REASON THAT IT ISNT STARTING? IS IT EXPENSIVE TO FIX?

It sounds like a fuel leak. When you turn the key on, the pump comes on and builds pressure. If there is a hole in the fuel line from rust or other damage, it will leak and if there isn't enough pressure to the fuel rail, it won't start. Try this. Have a helper turn the key to the run position while you check to see if gas is leaking under the vehicle. Protect your eyes. Because as I said, they build pressure fast and it could spray.

Let me know what you find.

That is the problem. What you have to do now is identify where it is coming from. Chances are it is the steel fuel line itself. They rust and eventually leak.
