The vehicle starts, but hesitates just a second and then turns over fine. However, all the gauges to to the max and then settle to their normal positions. The speedometer and the RPM guage go to the max and then to where they would at an idle. This especially happens if the vehicle sits overnight, but also will if I make a trip into town and it sits for over a half hour. Also, the doors will automatically lock as the vehicle starts and that is NOT a feature of this vehicle.

Any idea?

The check engine light came on once maybe a year ago. This problem was not present then nor any time soon after that.

This has been going on for a couple of months or so. I have noticed for several months now that a lot of gunk builds up on the battery post and I have been keeping that clean.

While cleaning that post this weekend, I did notice that some of the battery cable connector has been eaten away, but there is still a good solid connection. The part that has been corroded away isn't on the actual post clamp, but a little further back on the cable. I was wondering if it would be possible that the connector being partially corroded away could be preventing the complete amount of amps from being available to the vehicle?

Thanks for any help.
Tim

It could cause a problem. If enough if the cable is bad, it will overheat the good part and it could cause problems with the starter.
