It sounds like you might have an inoperative cooling fan possibly due to a faulty fan clutch.
Usually when the cooling fan does not operate the engine will overheat when the vehicle is stationary, as there is little to no air flow through the radiator. But as the vehicle starts to move, so does air flow through the radiator. This brings down the temperature.

In order to replace the fan clutch you will have to use a fan clutch remover tool. Those tools can be rented from your local auto parts store.
