Do you have to remove the motor to replace timing belt on a 1999 ford escort?

No need for an engine to be removed out of the car
1. disconnect negative side of the battery
2. place cylinder no.1 TDC compression stoke
3. remove drive belt and tensioner
4. remove timing belt cover
5. raise and support car
6. remove right front tire and splash shield
7. remove crankshaft pulley
8. align timing marks
9. loosen timing belt tensioner
10. remove timing belt
water pump should be check and replaced too
